Repair Runway 14L-32R Pavement & Lighting Replacement
NAS Oceana is the Navy’s east coast master jet base and home to 16 Naval Aviation Squadrons and over 300 aircraft. With more than 250,000 annual operations across four runways, the air station plays a critical role in supporting carrier-based aviation training and combat readiness.
Atlantic Electric, LLC served as the airfield lighting subcontractor to The Lane Construction Corporation for the Modernization of Airfield Lighting Phase 1 and 2 project. Atlantic self-performed the installation of all medium voltage cabling, pad-mounted switches, and transformers to power five new airfield lighting vaults. Each vault was equipped with a new ALCMS interface computer, switchgear regulator system, and a diesel generator for standby power. To support this system, Atlantic installed 330 handholes, over 30,000 feet of duct bank, and 880,000 feet of airfield lighting cable. A redundant fiber optic backbone connected each vault to the air traffic control tower, ensuring uninterrupted communication even in the event of a cable cut.
