Rehabilitate Runways 1-19 & 15-33 and Associated Taxiways

Client: Reagan National Airport

Location: Arlington, VA

Contract Value: $13,650,000

Project Duration: February 2023 to Present

Reagan National Airport, located in Arlington, VA, is a major public airport serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. It acts as a critical transportation hub, supporting a high volume of governmental travel and operating as a major hub for American Airlines. Runway 1-19, the airport’s main runway, is the busiest single runway in the United States, accommodating over 820 flights per day.

Atlantic Electric, LLC served as the airfield lighting subcontractor to Lagan Construction, LLC for the resurfacing of Runways 1-19 and 15-33. In 2023, Atlantic Electric installed new centerline light bases and conduit during a tightly scheduled 6-hour night shift ahead of an 8-inch mill and overlay on Runway 1-19. In 2024, a 2.5-inch overlay was completed to raise and smooth the runway surface. Atlantic Electric extended the centerline system, returned the Runway 01 touchdown zone lights to service, and converted the Runway 1-19 and Runway 15-33 edge light circuits to LED. The project was completed without any delayed runway openings.
