Berkeley County Jail Expansion

The Berkeley County Detention Center in Moncks Corner is a secure correctional complex serving the county’s growing population. A major expansion added over 100,000 square feet to improve inmate housing, staff support areas, and operational efficiency while meeting modern safety and communication standards.

Atlantic Electric provided the complete electrical system for the addition. The scope included temporary power and lighting, temporary power connections for new fire and domestic pumps, and installation of site underground and electrical distribution equipment. The team furnished interior distribution equipment and power, a generator with automatic transfer switches, and a 15 kV uninterruptible power supply. Additional work encompassed branch power and equipment connections, mechanical equipment power feeds, wiring devices, light fixtures, site lighting with controls, fire alarm systems, a public-safety distributed antenna system, emergency responder radio coverage, telecommunications infrastructure, raceways for electronic and telecom systems, lightning protection, grounding, handholes, seismic supports, and housekeeping pads for exterior electrical equipment.
