Design-Bid-Build Repair Runway 14L–32R Pavement & Lighting Replacement and Modernization of Airfield Lighting (Phases 1 & 2)
NAS Oceana, one of the Navy’s busiest jet bases, undertook a large-scale runway reconstruction and airfield lighting modernization to support carrier-based training and improve operational resilience. The effort upgraded key infrastructure to meet current UFC and FAA standards while sustaining flight operations throughout construction.
Atlantic Electric removed outdated airfield electrical systems and installed new LED runway and taxiway lighting, complete grounding and counterpoise networks, and runway status and wave-off systems. Additional work encompassed signage with concrete foundations, threshold light bars, and extensive concrete-encased ductbanks with manholes and handholes. Vault enhancements included CCR switchgear regulators, new generators with pads, and ALCMS integration, supported by new 15 kV gear, cabling, fiber optics, and full testing and commissioning.
